To celebrate the tenth series of LEGO Minifigures, LEGO wanted to do something special. So they created a special edition minifigure: the elusive Mr Gold. Only 5,000 Mr Golds were made, hidden in packs and distributed across the world.
Our task: create a game to promote Mr Gold and the sixteen other new minifigures, including an element of hide-and-seek.
What did we do?
We created a multi-level platform game, which showcased each of the characters by giving them their own level. Players had to collect the parts to build each character before they could progress to the next level, with each level more difficult than the last, and different obstacles introduced along the way.
We painstakingly tested and tweaked each level to get the difficulty just right. We also made sure that, while Mr Gold was often visible throughout the game, players had to work hard to find him.
Mr Gold proved hugely popular, and featured on the LEGO homepage for over a month. The client was thrilled, particularly with the collectability aspect, which is such a huge part of LEGO’s appeal.
